What is PEG-MGF?

Native MGF has an extremely short half-life of only minutes, which limits experimental utility. PEGylation - covalent attachment of a polyethylene glycol chain - shields the peptide from proteolysis and renal clearance, extending its research half-life to several days. Preclinical studies have examined PEG-MGF in models of muscle injury, cardiac repair after ischemia, and neuroprotection. Because PEGylation chemistry varies between suppliers, mass-spec confirmation of the conjugate is a key quality check.

Mechanism of Action (Research Context)

The MGF E-domain peptide acts through an IGF-1R-independent pathway (putatively via a distinct receptor) to promote satellite cell activation and proliferation while suppressing premature differentiation. PEGylation does not change receptor pharmacology but dramatically reduces proteolytic degradation and renal clearance.
