P21: Research Profile, Dosages & Supplier Prices

Neuropeptide research · Lyophilized powder · Also known as: P021, CNTF-derived peptide mimetic

P21 is a neuropeptide research compound with a molecular weight of ~649 g/mol and a research half-life of hours; bbb-penetrant, orally bioavailable in animal models. P21 (P021) is a small peptidomimetic derived from the biologically active region of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), engineered with an adamantane group for blood-brain barrier penetration and oral bioavailability. It was developed to capture CNTF's neurotrophic and neurogenic activity in a drug-like small molecule.

What is P21?

In preclinical research P21 enhances neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity, reduces tau hyperphosphorylation and amyloid pathology in Alzheimer's mouse models, and improves performance in cognition tasks. It acts partly by inhibiting LIF signaling leakage and modulating BDNF/TrkB and GSK3 pathways. Like Dihexa it is strictly preclinical, and it is one of the more pharmacologically sophisticated 'nootropic peptides' in research catalogs.

Mechanism of Action (Research Context)

CNTF-mimetic: modulates neurotrophic signaling including BDNF/TrkB enhancement and GSK3beta inhibition (reducing tau hyperphosphorylation), promotes dentate gyrus neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity.

P21 FAQ

It is a peptidomimetic of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), engineered with an adamantane moiety for blood-brain barrier penetration and oral stability.
Alzheimer's disease models primarily: it enhances hippocampal neurogenesis, reduces tau hyperphosphorylation and amyloid burden, and improves cognition in transgenic mice. Strictly preclinical.
No - completely unrelated. The cell-cycle inhibitor p21 (CDKN1A) is a 21 kDa protein; the research compound P21/P021 is a small CNTF-derived peptidomimetic. The shared name is a coincidence.
