Noopept is a neuropeptide research compound with a molecular weight of 318.4 g/mol and a research half-life of short (~30-60 min parent; active metabolite cycloprolylglycine persists). Noopept (GVS-111) is a synthetic dipeptide-derived nootropic developed in Russia, structurally based on the endogenous cyclic dipeptide cycloprolylglycine. Though often grouped with racetams, it is pharmacologically distinct and active at far lower doses. It is approved as a cognitive medication in Russia and widely sold elsewhere as a research compound.

What is Noopept?

Preclinical research shows neuroprotective, anxiolytic and cognition-enhancing effects, with proposed mechanisms including increased BDNF/NGF expression, cholinergic modulation, AMPA-receptor effects and antioxidant activity. Its active metabolite cycloprolylglycine is itself an endogenous peptide with anti-amnesic properties. Noopept has a modest human trial literature from Russia alongside a much larger animal literature.

Prodrug-like behavior: rapidly metabolized to cycloprolylglycine. Increases hippocampal BDNF and NGF expression, modulates cholinergic and glutamatergic (AMPA) transmission, and shows antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in neural tissue.
