What is MGF?
Unlike mature IGF-1, the MGF E-domain peptide does not act through the IGF-1 receptor. Research suggests it activates muscle satellite cells and delays their differentiation, expanding the pool of repair-competent cells. Its native half-life of only minutes makes the unmodified peptide suitable mainly for in-vitro and short-window animal work; the PEGylated form (PEG-MGF) is used where sustained exposure is needed.
Mechanism of Action (Research Context)
Acts via an IGF-1R-independent pathway attributed to the IGF-1Ec E-domain: promotes satellite cell activation and proliferation while suppressing terminal differentiation. Distinct from the PI3K/Akt signaling of mature IGF-1.
