Follistatin 344 is a growth factor research compound with a molecular weight of ~37.8 kDa and a research half-life of hours to days (isoform-dependent). What is Follistatin 344?

Animal studies with follistatin overexpression or gene therapy have produced dramatic increases in muscle mass, and a follistatin gene-therapy approach has entered early human trials for muscular dystrophies. Recombinant FST344 sold by peptide suppliers is used in cell and animal research on myostatin/activin signaling, reproductive biology (it was first isolated from follicular fluid), and metabolic regulation. As a large glycoprotein it is expensive to manufacture properly, so verification of identity and bioactivity is critical.

Mechanism of Action (Research Context)

Binds and neutralizes TGF-beta superfamily ligands - principally myostatin (GDF-8) and activins - preventing their interaction with ActRIIB/ALK receptors and downstream SMAD2/3 signaling. Loss of myostatin signaling releases the brake on muscle satellite cell activity and protein synthesis.

They are splice isoforms: FST344 is the full-length circulating form with a C-terminal tail; FST315 is a shorter, more tissue-retained isoform with higher heparin binding. FST344 is the common research reagent.
A credible COA needs more than HPLC: look for SDS-PAGE/Western confirmation of the ~38 kDa band and ideally a bioactivity assay. Mass spec of a glycoprotein this size is specialist work.
